Update: Status of Motus Data Uploads - Infrastructure Maintenance and Improvements

Hello everyone,

As many are aware, Motus has been experiencing data processing difficulties lately. We’ve reached a critical capacity limit with the system’s ability to process all incoming data in real-time. No data has been lost, but there is a delay between upload and availability through the R package or on the website.

While we’re working to rebuild our processes and database management structure to facilitate faster processing and availability of data, it’s likely that processing will remain delayed by ~2-6 weeks for the foreseeable future. To preserve server capacity, manual data uploads will be limited to 8AM to 8PM Eastern Time.

We appreciate the difficulty this creates, especially for assessing station performance and for studies requiring frequent updates. For network-connected stations, the best way to confirm the station is powered on and sending data is via SG Hub (for V2 SensorGnomes) or the CTT Portal (for SensorStations),

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Dear at Motus Central, This message now is a few month old. Is it still valid, that your data processing backlog is as big as descibed? I get frequently asked by our European colleques about whether Motus is still online and whether it is worth to joining the network. With the latter point, it becomes increasiningly frustrating for collaborators and I already feel some withdrawel from Motus for some. Thanks, Thiemo

Hi Thiemo, yes, the backlog is still as big as described. I apologize for the frustration regarding these delays. We are working on resolving the backlog as well as other improvements to the Motus data processing infrastructure. We’ve just posted more details on the situation and plan going forward here: Update and upcoming improvements regarding Motus processing.

There is a large tranche of data from June and July that is being processed and that has been holding up the processing of more recent data. Processed data for many SensorGnomes (and SG data from SensorStations) has been around July 17 to July 18 for the past couple weeks while this large block of data is being processed.
