Why is this forum private?

I only recently noticed that this forum cannot be browsed without logging in with a Motus/BofC account, what is the benefit of that? The mailing list that this forum replaces was publicly accessible…

The downsides I see:

  • an active community invites people in, e.g. the #1 reason I sign up for a forum is that I see interesting messages and want to participate
  • solutions and information posted here is not discoverable through search engines, for example, all the info about FCDs, antennas, range, tag attachement methods, etc doesn’t show up when someone punches a query into their favorite search engine

I don’t know what others think, but from my point of view, please consider making the forum public. Thanks!

I should add that the second point is the reason that, for quite a while, I wasn’t aware of the existence of this Motus community forum. Through search engines I’d come across the old Google groups, but they looked inactive/inaccessible. Only after contacting Motus support about this Google group was I made aware of the existence of the current forum.
