When swapping out the SD card on an existing Sensorgnome can you update the staion and project data before taking the card out in the field? The station has no data connection so can’t be connected to the Motus server. Or does it have no impact on future downloads of the data files as long as the GPS and boot counter work?
If you have an Android phone, you can use the app File Manager to remote connect to the Raspberry Pi and download the data over the local connection. I’ve had some problems in the past with removing cards and was told to do it as minimally as possible.

Thanks Jamie. I have done the file transfers in the past. I’ve never had much luck with using the phone as a hotspot and connecting the receiver to the internet.
This receiver has been operational for a a year and a half now and has been having some troubles recently with the GPS dropping out and one data file has hung up. I figured installing a a new SD card with an updated image installed would be a starting point for troubleshooting. Since our Naturalist club set up the receiver I’ve been the “tech guy” and have had to figure out the configuration and maintenance from what I can find on this forum and the Motus documentation.
Hi Ken, the station and project fields on the SG web interface aren’t required for data uploads or for data to be correctly associated with your project and station once processed. That all rests on the metadata you entered on Motus.org.
OK, so if I swap out the SD card, once it runs through the initial boot sequence and setup , and the first reboot, I just go back to downloading the detection files to my tablet and uploading to Motus when I get a connection? With the new card the receiver will still have the same receiver name but a lower boot count?
Dear Ken,
Formally, before 2025, I tried to upload my data of CTT Nodes (version 2, which detects 434 MHz LifeTags) deployed at different sites in Hungary. I have an independent station, which uses a CTT SensorStation receiver CTT-867459049273733, I frequently upload data from it. Nowadays, I use CTT Node version 3, which has a unique ID, and I use it primarily for detecting Blumorpho tags. I like to upload data of these Nodes, if it MOTUS can handle it.
Exactly. And yes, best to update the boot number
