I am setting up a sensorgnome station. I have the V2 software loaded and running on a PI. Now I am trying to find out how to edit the station metadata. I am not planning on having a GPS receiver. The equipment will be in a metal building. I at least need to enter the station lat and lon. Jim Hannon
hi Jim, in order for data to flow properly (and to manually add your station location), you’ll need to register and configure the receiver/station on Mouts.org. There are guidelines here: Station Management | Motus Docs
The upshot is that you need to:
- Create a project
- Add a station (here’s where you provide the location)
- Create a new deployment for your your station
- Here you’ll have an opportunity to register your receiver and associate it with your station, provide a start time, add antenna config, etc.
If the station is connected to the internet, the SG should acquire a time source that way (rather than relying on the GPS). But it there are definitely benefits to having a GPS attached to the Pi itself. The Adafruit hat is an option, as are some USB GPS options, and there are external antennas and USB extensions to get access a better signal. My own experience is that, even in some very non-radio-friendly buildings, a location is still acquired every now and then.
Thank,
I thought the lat and lon needed to entered on SensorGnome app.

No it’s set automatically by whatever GPS is attached. Or not at all if there’s not GPS, though that’s not ideal and only suitable at all if there is another time source for the SG such as an internet connection.
The manual setting is in the deployment metadata on Motus.org
