Same species listed twice at stations

I have run into a problem for my project (#834) where the same species (Leptonycteris yerbabuenae) is being listed twice underneath “species detected” at my stations (Quitobaquito, Canyon Diablo Lookout, and Ajo Mountain Wayside) on the Motus website. I got about 2 weeks into putting out tags for my project when the new website rolled out, so maybe the issue happened then? I’ve looked over the spelling and everything looks identical. I’m just not sure why it is being listed twice. How can I resolve this?

Hi Holly, I think this is an issue on the Motus end, not anything you’ve done. I suspect we have two entries for the species in our database, one in the bats group, one in the mammals group. I’ll see if we can get those merged so there aren’t duplicates.

I have a similar issue with Myotis grisescens being listed at both “Gray Bat” and “Gray myotis” in Motus. The transmitter deployments are not doubled but are assigned one or the other.

Not sure if this is the same as your issue, but thought I would share.

Best wishes,

Cory

Has anyone had a chance to review the bat species showing up twice in Motus under “bats” and “mammals”? Also, do you know if having it listed twice will interfere in data analysis or not?

Hi Holly, it’s due to how they are being summarized on the explore dashboard and wouldn’t affect the underlying data. Assuming that yours are like Cory’s and aren’t actually duplicated deployment records. Does everything look as expected to you if you view these on the old explore pages: Motus Wildlife Tracking System?

Yes the explore page looks like that and you are correct, they are not duplicated deployment records. Thanks for checking on this!

..same thing for “Little Brown Myotis” and “Little Brown Bat”… This is why we have scientific names! (for non-avian species..)
