We have some sad news to pass along regarding Wisdom Atsu of Intermod / Maple Leaf Communications. While visiting his family in Ghana this past month, Wisdom was involved in a serious traffic accident and killed.
Many of you will have known Wisdom from various antenna orders, and even if you never dealt with Wisdom personally you may well have used Maple Leaf antennas, which have become the go-to choice for many of us over the past few years.
Wisdom was just about the perfect guy to be making and selling antennas for Motus: an expert in radio technology, friendly and outgoing, fluent in several languages, resourceful when it came to delivering orders on time to various destinations, and a natural tinkerer who was always working to improve performance and better suit Motus’ needs.
Wisdom came to Canada from Ghana as a college student in the early 2000s, seeking to complement the engineering degree he had received in Cuba with a certificate in wireless communications. He quickly formed a bond with one of his instructors, Bob Morton, who gave him his first job in Canada – assisting Bob in his workshop building antennas and radio components for sale to HAM/amateur radio enthusiasts. (Wisdom’s own call sign was VA3TSU, for those who are interested.)
Throughout various jobs, Wisdom maintained his work and friendship with Bob, and in fact has been in the background helping to design and construct antennas for Motus ever since we used the first Maple Leaf antennas around a decade ago. He became a Canadian citizen in 2010 and eventually settled north of Toronto with his wife and two kids.
Following Bob’s retirement, Wisdom took over much of the Maple Leaf business, ramping up manufacturing of Motus antennas in his own basement shop, and selling them under his business name, Intermod. At the time of his death, he was in the process of introducing several new and improved products and scaling up production to meet the growing demand of Motus. He will be greatly missed by the Motus community.
