I am aware that FCDs have to be re-flashed for SG original software and have done. However, do they have to be re-flashed for use in CTT SensorStations? Haven’t been able to find any documentation to say they have hence the question. Thank you.
Hi Michael,
Yes they do, same as sensorgnome. If you purchased them directly from the funcube dongle store from the UK. However, if you purchased them from RFS Scientific or Compudata they have already flashed them!
Cheers,
William
Thank you William
I can confirm what William said. He helped us through the issue at Ankeny Wildlife Refuge last April.
Our installation is a CTT SensorStation. The SensorStation from CTT did not come with funcube dongles for the 166mhz radios. They had to be purchased separately from other vendors. As William points out, some vendors take care to reflash for 166mhz use and others do not.
One of our dongles was ok but two were not correct. So we were lulled into believing everything was fine when we got our first 166 Mhz (lotek) tag hit and actually we were basically blind on two of our three antennas.
My recommendation is to check all dongles before your deployments it just to make sure they are correct - the procedure is pretty straight forward.
The steps for checking and reflashing if needed flashing is described here: https://docs.motus.org/sensorgnome/appendix/fcdfirmware
Please feel free to ask back if you have difficulties or questions.

Thanks Rich for the further advice, and offer of assistance. Merely as a precaution I re-flash my FCDs before deploying.
