Lee Kennedy at ZDA communications has asked for an estimated count of omni antennas on 166.380 MHz that they should have manufactured for this coming Spring. This is to ensure orders can be filled in a reasonable time.
If anyone has plans on ordering these antennas next Spring, please let us know how many. Thanks!
Hi there! I’ve just reached out to ZDA asking for quotes - our lab is hoping to purchase 50 Omni Antennas in the new year…. this might be unlikely since they are an American company but does anyone know if ZDA offers CFI discounts (or even educational discounts) on large orders? Thanks!
Hi- I am spearheading an effort to install Motus stations across Minnesota. I would also like to see a quote first but assuming the pricing is reasonable compared to what we used in the past, we will be ordering about 36-40 166 MHz over the next year and a half. Thanks!
Hello @user956 . Just checking that you would be interested in 36-40 omni antennas as opposed to the more commonly used yagi directional antennas that ZDA also sells.
Is there a spec sheet on these? I might want some. I’m also in Canada so I am reluctant to buy from the US. That said, I’d like to investigate the detection range since I’m learning that a handmade J-pole antenna (total cost <$50) could have as much or bigger detection range. This needs to be verified in the real world though.
Yup - see attached. There aren’t any good non-US options, unfortunately. But we ordered a large volume from them and they shipped to us directly from China where they manufacture everything.
Also, keep in mind: increasing horizontal range comes at the cost of vertical coverage. Or put another way — the higher the dBi of an antenna, the broader the horizontal spread and the narrower the vertical beam.
