Hi, I am trying to figure out if my two antennas that receive 166.380 data from out Lotek tags are non-functional following a loss of network connection, while the two CTT antennas appear to be fine. Our station lost cell network connection back in April, which we didn’t notice until recently. A reboot seems to have fixed the connection problem, and old data from the CTT antennas came through, but nothing from the 166.380 Yagis did, and no new data has come through from those antennas since the reboot either. The antennas and associated ports are listed below with an image from the Motus: Receiver timeline with a red mark showing when the loss of cell connection happened. Any thoughts? Could this just be a delay in that data getting pushed through onto the MOTUS site? Thanks!!!
Hi Michael,
What you are seeing is the 166 data being processed on the Motus servers. I’ve found that this can sometimes take up to a week depending on how much data needs to be processed. It will backfill once completed. The 434 data shows up fairly instantly because the processing is done on CTT’s end prior to being sent to the Motus servers.
Hi Michael, as Nick mentioned, there is often a lag between the time when data passes from CTT’s servers to the Motus servers. I believe it’s always at least 24 hours, if memory serves, but there are occasions when it’s more – or where, as you’re noticing here, it’s different for one tag type vs another. (There are actually multiple potential data pathways, which complicates this even further!)
In this particular case, there was a network-wide backlog of 166 MHz (Lotek tag data) coming from network-connected SensorStations. We believe the issue has been resovled now, but as is usually the case, backlogs create their spillover backlogs and it can take time for everything to catch up. A couple SS I just checked are a few days behind with 166 MHz data. which is consistent with “catching up”.
All of our 30+ stations are still backed up in showing 166.380 data to 9/4, and have been consistently backed up by more than a week, sometimes two, beginning in late August. We’re really hoping things catch up soon!
Thanks so much for your responses! I will assume everything is fine for now. We have been tagging bats near our MOTUS tower for about a week, and since we have such short time windows to detect when these bats leave for hibernation, I am nervous about missing that data. Hopefully it’s all working as it should be!
Kate, yeah that’s what we’ve been seeing here as well… Previously the backup was around late August, so things have been moving along – if slowly.
@user1030 for a sanity check, log in to your CTT portal and check your station’s last check in status. You’ll be able to confirm that way that it’s powered on, syncing, etc. Then it’s just a matter of the transfer to Motus catching up…
