DIY CTT Motus receiver dongle - Interface status when plug in

I have programmed an Adafruit Feather for 434 MHz using the available online instructions. I have not soldered on the uFL surface mount yet and just wanted to see if it is recognized under Radios and under Ports of the SensorGnome interface (similar to FunCubes being plugged in but not connected to any coaxial cable or antennas yet). I have the feather connected to the Rasp Pi/SensorGnome via USB-A to microUSB cable; a little light on left side of feather flashes when I plug it in initially, but otherwise no other indications of a connection.

However my SensorGnome only recognizes my 3 FunCubes radios and ports, not the Feather yet as a CTT radio. I wouldn’t think so, but do I need to wait until I add the uFL surface mount connector and SMA to uFL cable to “confirm” its recognition?

Hi Mack,

You shouldn’t need the uFL for testing the dongle, the SG should be identifying it already. It’s been a while since I set up a CTT dongle, but I do recall it showing up as you describe the FCD showing.

In the firmware installation process, I’ve found the port selection process to be a little tricky. Maybe it’s just my computer, but I’ve had to unplug other USB devices in order for the dongle to be properly selected. Not sure if that will be helpful to you, but to me it sounds like your dongle had an issue during prep and isn’t configured properly.

Hi Nick,

I have identified the problems, part of which is what you suggested- thanks!

The micro-USB to USB cords I tried to used were not recognized by the computer, so it was choosing other ports. When I tried on a different computer with no additional ports being used but the one, trying two of the same cords the firmware software wouldn’t recognize any ports to bring up when refreshing. I tried a multi-adaptor cord that apparently has the data transfer cords (or just higher quality), and it recognized the only port.

I also tried those two micro-USB to USB ports in the SG and the SG interface didn’t show the programmed CTT radio. I switched to the multi-adaptor and it worked.

Morale of the story is don’t believe any micro USB to USB cord you buy off Amazon is going to be the correct one!
